America For Sale

A chapter from Matt Taibbi's new book.

When you consider why America is fated for eventual destruction.. consider that we spend vast amounts of our money on pointless wars that do nothing but kill hundreds of thousands of human beings and drain our resources.

That's pretty evident.. right?

There is really nothing that anyone could say that would justify any of these bullshit wars - unless you're personally generating a profit from it.

The irony of the whole thing is that the American right wing is convinced that this is a war against islam itself.. against the entire Middle East and we're going to kick their asses.

Meanwhile, the Middle Eastern nations are simply buying America, piece by piece. It's not even some sort of euphemism.. it's literal. They are literally buying American infrastructure, which legally entitles them to do whatever they want with it.

Suppose Saudi Arabia and Iran get pissed off for some reason, and they decide that nobody gets to use the New Jersey Turnpike. Millions of people can't get to work. Nothing gets delivered. Everything comes to a stand still.

And it's all completely legal because we sold the rights to the basic infrastructure of this nation to the very nations that we are trying to destroy with our war machines.

Who is fighting this war better? We build great tanks and planes. We can kill people with horrifying precision. The Arabs are making a massive profit on our own labor.

And Americans are too stupid to notice what's going on.

As Taibbi says.. the Americans that are brokering these deals don't give a fuck because they won't have any personal stake in this nation. They'll be long gone by the time the end comes along. I kind of miss the days when America could build the best highway system in the world... the best dams.. put men on the moon. Then again, I'm not going to be around when most Americans are working for foreign corporations.

In the meantime.. all you need is some money now. Live a nice life.. try not to think about what's coming if you have kids. The great American Sale isn't going to stop.
