I've Got a Secret

WASHINGTON – CNN medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta won't be the next surgeon general, the Obama administration confirmed Thursday.

Gupta, 39, a neurosurgeon with star appeal, was seen as President Barack Obama's first pick for the job. He would have brought instant recognition to the office of surgeon general, a post that has lacked visibility since the days of C. Everett Koop during Ronald Reagan's presidency.

An administration official said that Gupta had been under "serious consideration" but took himself out of the running because he wants to focus on his medical career and spend more time with his family.

Anytime you see someone do the "time with family" thing, you know there is something dodgy going on behind the scenes. You just don't usually see that phrase used until after someone has been caught being a bonehead.

Doesn't everyone want to "spend more time with family"? Just once I'd like to see someone say "I'm taking this job because my family is irritating and I need to get away from them for a while".

In any case, this is good news. Gupta is a jackass, and would have been a terrible Surgeon General. I'd prefer someone who has made health care their profession, rather than using health care as a means to get on the teevee.

Hmmm.. I wonder.. is it tax issues? Fucking other women, not his wife? TeH Gay?

I think a person has to be mad to want notoriety. Society has this wacky issue with having fun.. and is merciless about it.

...

In a sort of related way.. Joe Teh Plumber has filed some lawsuit or other.. claiming that he can't get work Plumbing because some people are mean to him.. or some shit.. rather than, you know, not getting work because he doesn't actually have a license to plumb. He gets bonus points for playing the paranoia card in claiming that he was on Obama's "enemies list".. Isn't that a badge of honor for a member of the Loon Brigade?

Joe is a very stupid person.. and quite often, that is a bankable asset in certain circles. Isn't he supposed to be getting paid by the Republican party just for being known as the guy who bitched about Obama.. and being a poster child for all that is right and masculine about the party?

Didn't he get paid for his 15 minutes?
