Customer Appreciation

Warner Music Group reported the Opeth Hex Omega video I did to Youtube for copyright violation, and it got yanked.

That pisses me off.

Music publishers are struggling in the new electronic frontier, and they are continually taking it out on fans for their own failures. They are creating an antagonistic atmosphere with their own customers.

Videos on Youtube are not original recordings. Youtube downgrades the quality of everything that is posted there, and it's not like you can take an audio recording from Youtube and put it in your car CD player.

I bought the Opeth Watershed album. In fact, I bought the collectors editions for extra money. I pre-ordered it in fact.

I could very easily have downloaded it from a torrent on the internet for free. Instead, I support the artists that I like and listen to. I buy their albums.. I go to their shows.

The behavior of the publishers is pissing me off to the point where I think I should just download the music for free. Fuck them, I don't want a fucking nickle of my money going to those assholes who do nothing but skim money from the original artists. They offer nothing. They contribute nothing.. and they take a cut of each purchase.

I spent hours making that video.. I think it's fucking cool.. and people who viewed it on Youtube thought it was fucking cool. It's a promotion of the original work, and maybe somebody might have bought the album because they saw the video and dig it.

This is also why I support Trent Reznor, and hope the rest of the musicians follow suit. Fuck the record companies. Bypass them. Put your shit on the internet yourself, and take 100% of the sales money yourself. Starve those fucking corporate assholes, and make them go find real work that actually creates something.

I bought a Nine Inch Nails album from Trent's web site for 5 bucks.. that's it. He got every penny of that money. That's how it should be done.

Fuck you Warner.. The video lives on.. and I'll upload it again to Youtube in a couple of weeks (the film studio reported it once already).. and I'll avoid using the searchable keywords they're looking for... or not.. I'll just keep re-uploading it when they report it.

In the mean time.. if anybody cares, it can be downloaded direct via ftp from here. It's the same video I posted a couple months ago..

And I'm working on a new one.. and when that's done.. I'll upload that copyright violating mother fucker to Youtube also.
