Today is John's 45th birthday. He typically makes a bigger deal of birthdays ending in a 0 or a 5.. so tonight we're going to Three Forks restaurant with his parents and sister. This is one of the premiere steak houses in the nation.. Their dinner salads are the best.. evar. It's got kind of a creamy blue cheese, with apple and walnut hints. The lettuce is perfectly chilled and seems like they just picked it from the farm that day. They likely did. They steaks are USDA Prime, which is the top 2% of all beef produced in the nation. It's prepared by master chefs, and I really like the way the outside edges are seared by flash 1800 degree temps. It gives it a very fine crunchy edge, peppered with spices.
It's exceptional... absolutely everything about it is awesome.
I didn't get him any gift. For my last birthday, he got me a new toothbrush. We didn't get each other anything for Christmas either.
The problem is, there's nothing that either of us really want that costs less than 6 figures, and we've already got what we need. It's sort of an absurd version of the "what do you get the man who has everything?" problem.
