It's apparently okay in official Washington for there to be a nation whose leader thinks words speak louder than actions, that an impudent comedian is more offensive than the ongoing slaughter in Iraq, and that 2-3 dead American troops per day is barely worthy of notice.I always like to go back to the bottom line, and when you wonder how it is that politics and media is so screwed up, you have to remember that it's due to the incredible stupidity of the American public. None of this would have been possible without you.
One keeps imagining that the grownups will finally wake up and try to change things, but if the last decade has taught us anything it's that if there are any grownups in Washington no one bothers to listen to them anymore. - Duncan Black, aka Atrios:
I get messages from people wondering why I'm so angry all the time. It's because every single day, of every month, of every year, I remember that there are American service members dying in unjustified wars. I remember that many more innocent civilians die. I remember that the numbers of horribly wounded are unfathomable. Most people simply do not want to think about that because they want their regular daily lives of going to work and raising a family.
Well, me.. I carve out space every single day to think about the dead, the dying, and the maimed.. every single day.. and it makes me angry beyond words.
I think Americans just want Bill Clinton back.. well, except for the right wingers that never get any sex and don't want anyone else to either. They don't want the Clenis back again. The rest of us just want everyone home and going to work, and raising kids, making some money, and having a good time... You know.. where the big concern of the day was whether or not the prez was getting blown by a chubby intern.
Today Bush's approval ratings are in the low 30's, but that doesn't say so much about Bush as it does about America. That says that American's think that Americans suck.
