I often talk about real differences between the way liberals and conservatives think. It's often demonstrated, as is the case this time as well.
A lot of people are doing a bad job, a comedian rips them for doing a bad job, right to their face, right in their own self-congratulatory social event. They think the comedian sucked, and the rest of us are snickering at them for not getting it.
Truly, the brilliance of Colbert was not that he was performing for the president or the press in attendance. He was performing for us, the American public. Most American's think Bush is a terrible president, and is a lying sack of shit. Most American's think the press is complicit in allowing Bush to lie over and over. Colbert knew that his performance would resonate across the internet.
He stood up and said "you're all a bunch of idiots". He's right - and they know it. That's why they're pissed.
