Is it me?

So - it's apparent that nearly every single day that I write, there are religious and political issues that seem really unusual. Am I being unreasonable?

The question I have - A United States Senator says he wants to impale judges - and you don't see much news media coverage of that. Go back about 30 years, say, and if a Senator had said something like that, would it have been big headline news nationwide? I'm not assuming it would be, that's an honest question.

I guess what I'm trying to pin down is whether what seems to be an onslaught of really crazy religious people is a new thing - or is it the internet that makes it seem that way because of wall to wall exposure of every single detail? Clearly there is a lot more information at hand because of the internet.

So what has changed? Answering that question is what trouble-shooting is all about. You examine a whole bunch of conditions, compare them over time, and isolate what is real that has changed. It gets complicated when more than 1 thing has changed, so it can be impossible to point at one issue or the other.

I'm curious if I'm over-reacting. It's possible because I read a bunch of left-wing blogs and publications, and they root out and make an issue of all the odd things going on. That may amplify my impression that it's society that has changed, but in fact it may be the coverage of society that has changed.

Re-wind the clock 30 years. What would we know about a Schiavo situation, or a Senator threatening a judge? Would we know either situation existed at all? There would be no internet showing it to you with a mouse click.

If the news media doesn't report it, did it happen?

Just curious..
