Snubbed

Yesterday I posted about Cardinal Law celebrating mass in Rome at the invitation of the Catholic leadership.

Well - some sensible people decided not to go...

VATICAN CITY — The scandal over sex abuse by American priests intruded on the mourning for Pope John Paul II here Monday as all but one U.S.-based cardinal avoided a Mass led by Boston's disgraced former archbishop, Cardinal Bernard Law.

Three of the seven cardinals — Edward M. Egan of New York, Francis George of Chicago and Roger M. Mahony of Los Angeles — snubbed the Mass in St. Peter's Basilica out of concern over Law's notoriety, three American church sources said.
The really odd thing is, it's obvious that the Catholic church thinks molesting kids is a good idea. It's rampant in the Church. They been covering it up for decades. They do nothing but pay huge settlements when confronted. Then they honor vile criminals by allowing them to celebrate mass in their most holy cathedral.

Isn't that just the weirdest thing? It's rather amusing that the other Cardinals decided to skip the mass. I'm quite sure it was just for appearance sake however.

The story talks about abuse by "American priests" - but the issue is obviously world wide. The United States just has a better justice system. In other parts of the world, it's got to be rampant.

They can do what they want, but it's the rampant hypocrisy that bugs me. They call gay people evil. How strange..

But wait, there's more:

"We believe that Cardinal Law at this time should recuse himself and not celebrate the liturgy." As Blaine spoke, two police officers ordered her off Vatican City property, pushing her and the media about eight feet, placing them outside Vatican territory and back into Italy, where she continued to speak to reporters.
We just want to make sure everyone knows. The priest that enables child rapists celebrates mass. The rape victims are not allowed on church property.

That's Catholic policy.

** Update **

Just want to make sure we're quite clear on what we're talking about here..

[Cardinal Bernard] Law resigned as archbishop of Boston in December 2002 after unsealed court records revealed he had moved predatory clergy among parishes for years without telling parents their children were at risk. He has apologized for his wrongdoing.
