Lets look at a couple of quotes, shall we?
"Creation is why we are here," said retired teacher Virginia Doll, defending the introduction of religion into the biology classes.Actually Virginia, the existence of the universe is why we are here. Anything beyond that is just speculation.
"We have a rather religious town, the God we serve is important in everything we do," she said.
"Here we have non-scientifically educated people trying to tell teachers what is scientific and what is not scientific," said Bryan Rehm, one of the 11 plaintiffs in the lawsuit.Oh Bryan.. come now.. that's just the way religion works. Religious people are the biggest morons on the planet who don't know shit about what they are talking about - but they believe in it very passionatly. In fact, it reminds me of one of those Holiday Inn commercials. "Doctor, you're performing a brilliant brain surgery today" - "I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Select hotel last night". It's the same concept.
They have absolutely not a zero clue, but they know better than a scientist with a lifetime of study. Well, not just one scientist but the entire body of science.
But pastor and parent Ray Mummert, 54, explained their point. That's the same reason the Islamic fundamentalists never wanted young girls to get any eduction. It's much easier to control an ignorant person than someone knowledgable.
"If we continue to indoctrinate our young people with non-religious principles, we're headed for an internal destruction of this society," he said.
Here's an idea. Somebody needs to do a study comparing religious fervor to intelligence quotient (I.Q.). I'll bet you find they are inversely proportional on average. It won't be politically correct to release the results, but it would be very amusing none the less.
You see, Ray Mummert, pastor and parent, has built his entire life around the whole religious thing. He's nothing more than a con man that needs to keep people supporting him so he won't need to get a real job. He's deathly afraid of people not needing organized religion.
Up until Bush won in 2000, religion had been in a steady decline. The Catholics can't recruit new priests. Fewer and fewer people went to church. The "pastors" are not going gently into that good night. We don't need them, but they sure as hell need us.. or more accurately - our money.
Back to the quotes..
"Christians are a lot more bold under Bush's leadership, he speaks what a lot of us believe," said Mummert. There we go.. getting some honesty now. Because the President of the United States panders to the crazy people, it's okay to be crazy.
Yes - you voted for Bush - and yes, you brought on us the religious crazy people. Way to go!
But, by far, this is my favorite quote. Expect it will be used by every left/educated/intelligent anti-religious freak group there is.
"We've been attacked by the intelligent, educated segment of the culture," he said, adding that the school board's declaration is just a first step.Yes Ray, you're under attack by the intelligent and educated people. It could be worse. You could be under attack by the stupid and uneducated people. Just ask the smart people.
