On Moral Grounds

From the Post:

Some pharmacists across the country are refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control and morning-after pills, saying that dispensing the medications violates their personal moral or religious beliefs.

The trend has opened a new front in the nation's battle over reproductive rights, sparking an intense debate over the competing rights of pharmacists to refuse to participate in something they consider repugnant and a woman's right to get medications her doctor has prescribed. It has also triggered pitched political battles in statehouses across the nation as politicians seek to pass laws either to protect pharmacists from being penalized -- or force them to carry out their duties.

An increasing number of clashes are occurring in drugstores across the country. Pharmacists often risk dismissal or other disciplinary action to stand up for their beliefs, while shaken teenage girls and women desperately call their doctors, frequently late at night, after being turned away by sometimes-lecturing men and women in white coats.
I had posted about this a few weeks back, where it was just an issue the Christian freak pharmacists were talking about. Apparently they started refusing to dispense meds. I would still fire all of the pharmacists who do not dispense legal medications prescribed for a patient. How dare these lunatics presume to lecture people?

Lets makes sure we have this correct. You have a medical issue and you've worked out the right course of treatment with your doctor that is in your best interest. It is a totally private matter between you and your doctor. The pharmacists refuses to fill the prescription for a legal medication because he has some moral objection to what your treatment plan is.

I'm quite confused on how this issue is even a topic for discussion. Just fire the pharmacists and get a new one.

Atrios is collecting the names, place of business, and business phone numbers of the pharmacists who are refusing to dispense legal medications. I would expect a barrage of angry phone calls will rain down on them after Atrios publishes the list. If I was one of the women refused medication, I would sue them into oblivion. The emotional distress should be worth a few million per case.. at least.

I seriously am not kidding when I tell you that the most dangerous element facing this country is not Islamic terrorists. It's Christian fundamentalists. The terrorists can destroy a building, but the Christians can destroy our rule of law.

When most Americans get on an airplane, they look around to see if there are any dangerous looking Arab men on board. They cast a suspicious gaze and keep an eye on them during the flight.

When I get on an airplane, I look around for suspicious looking Christian freaks. I keep an eye on them. The terrorists can only destroy my body. The Christian wants to destroy the way I live.

So, how do you spot the wiley Christian freak? They generally all look the same. As a picture is worth a thousand words, lets just see an example. Here we have Rick Santorum and some other crazy person. Notice the expensive-but-boring suit, boring hair cut, and "I haven't had sex in 15 years" look on their faces. Santorum has a particularly constipated look on his face, which is very common among the Christian freaks, as is the button on the lapel, which must be a cross or an American flag. A yellow ribbon is appropriate during a "time of war" when the great Christian Armies of the United States are meting out justice to the Islamic heathens.

Help me Jeebus

Now, lets have a look at some non-Christian freak people. I chose this pic for a very specific reason. Notice the suit on the person on the left. I like the cut, color, and tie. The person on the right is wearing something very unique and individualistic. The expressions range from "wow, I can't believe I'm here" to "wow, I'm so bored I can't believe I'm here." The facial hair is also a typical sign of a non-Christian freak. A good 5 o'clock shadow says "I'm too cool to be bothered with what you think". Also notice the hair, which is a critical component in establishing identity. The sideburns work well, as does the over-all hair color.

who?

Which pair of guys would you rather hang out with?

Bonus points to anyone who knows who those two fellas are.. Terry, don't spoil it for everyone else - I'm sure you know. :)

** UPDATE **

So, a new law in Michigan is passed. It was introduced in order to allow health care workers to refuse to treat gay people without risk of being sued.

(Lansing, Michigan) Doctors or other health care providers could not be disciplined or sued if they refuse to treat gay patients under legislation passed Wednesday by the Michigan House. The bill allows health care workers to refuse service to anyone on moral, ethical or religious grounds.

The Republican dominated House passed the measure as dozens of Catholics looked on from the gallery. The Michigan Catholic Conference, which pushed for the bills, hosted a legislative day for Catholics on Wednesday at the state Capitol.
Umm... okay.. soo.. Catholics are evil. I've known that for a while. It's one thing to oppose gay marriage rights. It's quite another to refuse to treat another human being because of their sexual orientation. Hell, it's immoral to not treat a person for any reason.

The attacks are becoming all to real. Despise is too weak of a word to describe how I feel about religious fundamentalists and the Catholic church. And, the really sick thing is that I know more gay priests than you shake a stick at. In fact, the Catholic church is staffed by predominantly gay men. Talk about self hating.

Notice to family - if something bad were to happen, I suppose it would be okay to bury me near mom and sis BUT I do NOT want any Catholic priests at the service, nor hold any services in a Catholic church.

Corrente commented on this story as well, and thought quoting Jesus would be a good thing.

Allow me to quote Jesus (Luke 10:25-37):

25: And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
26: He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?"
27: And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."
28: And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."
29: But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
30: Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31: Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.
32: So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
33: But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion,
34: and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35: And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, `Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'
36: Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?"
37: He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
Could the Catholic Church and Jesus Christ be any further apart in ideology? It's just another example of how organized religion is not a religion of God, or Jesus, or Buddah, or < insert your favorite prophet here >. Organized religion is the religion of man's vanity and hatred. It is pure and unmitigated evil.
