Asshat Quote of the Day

In the progressive era, there was an understanding that men who impregnated women should marry them. It didn’t always work in practice, but that was the strong social norm. Today, that norm has dissolved. Forty percent of American children are born out of wedlock. This sentences the U.S. to another generation of widening inequality and slower human capital development. - David "BoBo" Brooks

Brooks is a highly paid columnist at the NYT. He's a moron on economic matters, and pretty much everything else but figuring out how to be a highly paid columnist at the NYT. Every column is a "why, back in my day", or a "get off muh lawn" diatribe.

He's also completely wrong.

Morons like Brooks think it's better for two people who don't want to be together get married because of a pregnancy. The conservative dip-shits can't grasp the concept that it's not the number of parents that counts, it's the quality of the parenting.

I live in Texas. I've seen how bad it can get. Many of these kids would be much better off with a single parent that can raise them with the right values than the horror of being stuck with parents that can't stand each other.

The really funny thing is that Brooks' column was about economics.
