Riddle Me This

"A bat and a ball cost $1.10 in total. The bat costs $1 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?"

The riddle came from an article that studied the thinking patterns of people who are religious vs. people who are not.

At first glance, the obvious answer is .10, which was linked to religiosity. People inclined to deeper thought tend not to be religious.

Anyway.. I didn't save the link to the article like I should have, but that was the gist of it.

I mean, it's a good riddle in the sense that my brain went straight to $.10 after reading it.

But, instead of mashing $.10 and posting a comment and beaming in my smartitude, I sat back and let the question soak in cause I knew that just didn't seem right.

Sure enough after a fraction of thought, the correct answer came to me.
