AIDS Cured

And every other type of viral infection;

As part of the PANACEA (for Pharmacological Augmentation of Nonspecific Anti-pathogen Cellular Enzymes and Activities) project, researchers from MIT Lincoln Laboratory have developed and demonstrated a novel broad-spectrum antiviral approach, called DRACO (for Double-stranded RNA [dsRNA] Activated Caspase Oligomerizer). DRACO selectively induces apoptosis, or cell suicide, in cells containing any viral dsRNA, rapidly killing infected cells without harming uninfected cells. As a result, DRACO should be effective against virtually all viruses, rapidly terminating a viral infection while minimizing the impact on the patient.

This isn't coming from some no-name in France... it's M.I.T., one of the most prestigious researching organizations in the world.

As is always the case with these things.. you get.

Dr. Rider says that although more extensive testing is needed, "DRACO has the potential to revolutionize the treatment and prevention of virtually all viral diseases, including everything from the common cold to Ebola." He adds, "Because the antiviral activity of DRACO is so broad spectrum, we hope that it may even be useful against outbreaks of new or mutated viruses, such as the 2003 SARS [severe acute respiratory syndrome] outbreak."

Fuck that. Viruses exist because they multiply. Simply create enough of the stuff to shoot up everyone in the world, and within a few years, there are no more human viruses. Then, shoot up livestock and such. Spray that shit over the entire planet and wipe out every virus that exists.

No more AIDS. No more Hepatitis. No more colds. All viral infections gone.

What I don't get is why there is no MSM coverage of this. Right now, the top story at Yahoo News is the US credit rating issue. The discovery of a single cure-all for viral infections is about a million times more important than that. It's not even covered in the Science or Health sections.

Why not?

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that Big Pharma doesn't want any cures for anything. Like these things always go, it'll just quietly go away.

Technically curing all virus' everywhere in one hit wouldn't do wonders for us in the long term. Eventually something would pop up that such a treatment couldn't handle and due a less than stellar immune system (the result of several generations of DRACO vaccinations) the future human immune response would be all but nonexistent, we'd probably be wiped out pretty quick.

Hmmm.. I hadn't thought of that. Are immune systems that combat bacteria different than viruses?

Still, where would that new virus come from? Outer space?

Maybe people are not allowed to get treated with the new vaccine until they're 40 (past breeding age say so that immune systems are passed on as they are), or unless they have a life threatening illness such as Ebola or HIV.

Still, it would be nice if you're young and get a nasty cold to just get a shot and be done with it.
