Asshat Quote of the Day

"But if someone is attending speeches from someone who is promoting the violent overthrow of our government, that's really an offense that we should be going after -- they should be deported or put in prison." - Rand Paul

It's pretty scary stuff. Politicians, who are actually taken seriously, advocate imprisoning citizens not just for "promoting the violent overthrow of our government", but those that are listening to it.

George Bush started the erosion of civil liberties in the US - and it's accelerating under Obama. When the government starts putting people in prison for what they say, that's when we need to organize an overthrow of the government. Ideally, that would be done with elections.

Fortunately, the judicial branch of government is not bound by what jackasses like Rand Paul insist. The constitutionality of such an act wouldn't stand.. but it does give you a pretty good idea how far this nation has fallen when you consider that it's involved in 3 wars, law enforcement is out of control, and the media darlings of the political class are advocating prison for the content of your speech.

I really - really want to leave the US, but we're probably going to have to wait until we retire. There's money to be made first. If I had to guess, I'd say that we'll end up in Toronto.
