Taxes

Basic math has always seemed to mean that if Americans want government to do something, it has to be paid for through taxes. Americans, however, don't want to pay taxes. Americans are a bunch of spoiled morons with delusions of grandeur and an entitlement complex.

Can you imagine a single politician running for office on a platform of raising taxes to cover budget gaps and provide for the things Americans want government to do? Well - no.. of course not. That's why politicians always "get tough on crime" and want to make sure nobody has to pay for anything.

Of course, that creates the paradox of needing more prisons without anyone wanting to pay for them. But, whatever.

It's readily apparent that things in this nation are falling apart.. literally. The infrastructure is falling apart.. education is falling apart.. the moral fabric of what it means to be an American has fallen apart.

If you wonder why the nation seems to be going down this path.. it's pretty simple. Rich people prefer it that way, and everyone else are too stupid to realize what's going on. Oh.. of course some not-rich people have a pretty good idea they're getting fucked, but that's a minority to be sure.

A nation like the US moves at the speed of a glacier. It requires a massive effort to move it one direction or another, and since the disintegration is well underway, there's really no chance of moving it back the other direction for a very long time. The best bet is to have money.. and hope that the media ignores the plight of everyone else, because it'll be a drag eating at one of the best restaurants on the planet knowing a bunch of kids aren't eating anything at all.

Or.. as Cypher said in the Matrix, while chewing a rare piece steak, "Ignorance is bliss."
