Blast It All

WASHINGTON – In a politically incendiary plan, the bipartisan leaders of President Barack Obama's deficit commission proposed curbs in Social Security benefits, deep reductions in federal spending and higher taxes for millions of Americans Wednesday to stem a flood of red ink that they said threatens the nation's very future.

The White House responded coolly, some leading lawmakers less so to proposals that target government programs long considered all but sacred. Besides Social Security, Medicare spending would be curtailed. Tax breaks for many health care plans, too. And the Pentagon's budget, as well, in a plan designed to cut total deficits by as much as $4 trillion over the next decade.

Instead of a guaranteed retirement income to help people stay out of the park, substisting on cat food, we get wars... awesome, glorious, never ending wars.

How come ending wars is never on the chopping block, but Social Security and Medicare are?

The proposed simplification of the tax code would repeal or modify a number of popular tax breaks — including the deductibility of mortgage interest payments — so that income tax rates could be reduced across the board. Under the plan, individual income tax rates would decline to as low as 8 percent on the lowest income bracket (now 10 percent) and to 23 percent on the highest bracket (now 35 percent). The corporate tax rate, now 35 percent, would also be reduced, to as low as 26 percent.

Ya. a 2 percent tax cut for poor people, and a 9 percent cut for the wealthiest. You know.. 2 percent of not much, is not very fucking much at all.

The funniest part about it all, of course, is that nobody will give a fuck. They could cut taxes to zero for millionaires and raise everyone else's.. and nobody would give a flying fuck or do anything about it. They'll just keep voting for the Jesus party.
