As I Said

LOS ANGELES – The disfigured Afghan teenager whose photo was recently featured on a Time magazine cover has arrived in Southern California where a foundation has arranged for reconstructive surgery.

The Grossman Burn Foundation in Los Angeles said Friday that 18-year-old Bibi Aisha arrived Thursday and is staying with a host family.

Aisha says her nose was cut off as punishment for running away from her violent husband.

Dr. Peter Grossman, a plastic surgeon and co-director of the Grossman Burn Centers, says he will meet with Aisha to discuss her treatment, likely a prosthetic nose or a reconstruction of her nose with tissue from the rest of her body.

Activists and human rights workers say they are glad that Aisha is getting treatment but thousands of other women are victims of domestic violence in Afghanistan.

I seem to recall some brilliant political commentator recently noting that if the US had just airlifted the lot of them to the US 10 years ago, we would have saved a fuck-ton of money.. and she wouldn't need any surgery.

And the islamic freak men wouldn't have any women to abuse.. which would be the most fucking awesome thing ever. I can't imagine any attack on them that would be as devastating. Not even a nuclear bomb could have inflicted more damage.

It's too bad that bastion of common sense and judgment isn't in charge of anything.
