SCotUS

Justice Souter is retiring. Isn't it amusing he waited until after Bush retired to clear brush in Dallas, and Obama was elected? It's even more amusing that he was appointed by the elder Bush as a "staunch conservative", and turned out he was a very high quality justice instead? We can thank him for his service for a job well done, and wish him the best in enjoying his retirement.

I'd prefer.. say.. Jonathan Turley or Glenn Greenwald to replace Souter.. but you know.. that's asking too much I guess.

Still, it's nice that we can get a pick and ignore the opinion of the Loon Brigade. We just need to get Al Franken seated in the Senate ASAP. That's why Norm Coleman refuses to conceed, even though more people voted for Franken than him.

It won't change the ideological outlook of the court as a whole.. but there will be more picks, especially as Obama gets a 2nd term. There's very little chance for Republicans to edge back into the Senate during this period, so it's a great chance to stack the court for decades to come.

Harold Koh would be a good choice.. but he's 54. It woud be better to pick somebody in their mid 40's.. but still.. 50's isn't old, and he could do 30+ years on the court easy.
