WASHINGTON — The White House is allocating tickets for the upcoming Easter Egg Roll to gay and lesbian parents as part of the Obama administration's outreach to diverse communities.
Families say the gesture shows that the new Democratic administration values them as equal to other families. And for many, being included in the annual tradition _ dating to 1878 _ renews hope that they will have more support in their quest for equal rights in matters such as marriage and adoption than under the previous administration.
I'm actually surprised at the pace at which gay rights are advancing since Obama became President. It's not all about him.. he's just a figure-head in that respect and isn't as progressive on gay rights as I'd like.
I remember how disappointed I was when Chimpy announced the "faith based initiatives", which was merely a program to funnel money to religious nuts.. Now, I'm excited when every single policy move by the fed goes our way... so early in the administration.
It's not going to stop.. I'm not sure exactly how long it's going to take, but it's just not going to stop until everyone is treated with dignity and respect in the law nation-wide.
These are days of pointing and laughing.. of our schandenfraude. I feel no remorse. It's fun.
