State Secrets

The glossy sheen has worn off..

Greenwald has a couple of essays on Obama's position reversal on "state secrets", specifically related to extraordinary rendition and torture, demonstrated here, and explaining the 180 degree reversal here.

This is exceptionally disappointing. There will be no prosecutions for previous lawbreaking either.. as I mentioned before, the Nuremberg Defense working well in the United States.

What seems odd to me is that Obama came into office with very high approval ratings, the Republicans with record low.. and most Americans backing progressive policy positions. Obama could have done every single thing he's said he would do during the campaign.

It appears that Obama is not that kind of President. Yes, it's still very early, but the signs are not good.

It also occurs to me that Bush simply granted every Conservative dream, regardless of what anyone else thought. He just did it. Sure, it completely fucked up everything, but still.. he was not some "centrist" by any measure.
