Music Video of the Day
John and I are leaving today, heading to Las Vegas.. you see.. we've got tickets to see Trent Reznor.. Nine Inch Nails. We also might play some high-stakes bingo with the Asian ladies.. lol
The video is styled in homage to Metropolis.
In the history of musicians who happen to be gay, there are quite a few fine ones, but very few who don't fit the typical stereo type. Elton John? Liberace? Freddie Mercury? All brilliant in their own way, but just too much camp to be cool. Well.. Freddie was cool anyway.. but he did do videos in drag.. Rob Halford in leather drag? He's awesome.. but gaaaayyy
Trent Reznor is a true artist in every sense, but beyond just the music, he has become a genre onto his own, which is extraordinary. Sure, there are some other industrial bands out there. Sure, there are some bands with elaborate stage presentations.. but NIN combines a future leaning sound and visual that is unmatched by anyone. Reznor is always ahead of the curve.. actually establishing the curve.
His last two releases have been experimental, seemingly free-form. Some of it is shit.. which is cool. He's not afraid to try something different, and put it out there to see if anybody likes it. One of the albums he gave away to his fans for free.
On the current tour, they're using a new lighting setup. We saw them on their last tour, and the visuals were stunning.. but now they've got new tools that allow all the members of the band to manipulate the visuals live, during the show. No two shows will be identical. Once again.. pushing the boundaries of music and art.
I've told John there's only one person who I would switch places with if I could.. it'd be Trent Reznor.. which is okay with John since Trent has been in the gym a lot the last few years.. He's no longer the scrawny nerdy looking emo kid he used to be.
Oh. and one other gay musician that I like.. in a not-so-obviously-gay-way is J.F. Handel. Well... he's long gone, so I really have no idea if he was really flamey or not.. but from what I've seen.. I expect not.
Little to no blogging until next week.. Somebody go leave harassing (and by harassing I mean sane, sensible, and logical) comments at Teh Loon's blog while I'm gone.

I'm on it! Have a good time!
Sorry I didn't mean to leave that anonymously.
Jealous! Have fun. I haven't seen NIN since Boise of 06 or 05. Was a great show though.
Good luck at the bingo.
Steve.

Hey he had a generation of metalheads wearing black leather and studs with no idea whatsoever where that fashion style came from! :-D
