"Things aren't going to change unless you change something. If we don't change anything, we're going to pretty much get the same thing." - Dallas Cowboys coach, Wade Phillips
Uh.. duh..
Guess what they need to change? Let's try a new coaching staff, shall we? Sure, the players were awful for much of the season, but game after game, I kept seeing stupid coaching errors as well.
The Philly game was a perfect macrocosm of the essence of the Dallas Cowboys.. exposed for everyone to see. A bunch of over priced "stars" not playing sound and fundamental football, but rather a bunch of "look at me" wannabies constantly getting their asses kicked.
There's only 2 players on the team I even care to see coming back next season.. Jason Witten and Nick Folk (the kicker). Every play Witten makes you can see how solidly he plays.. the way he catches the ball, the way he protects it.. the way he knows if he needs to get out of bounds to stop the clock.. and knows where the first down line is.
Nick Folk makes field goals. He does his job.. amazing!
Terrel Ownes can't catch a pass unless it's nearly uncatchable. Throw it to his chest and he'll drop it.
The game wa so comical, even Troy Aikman was annoyed.. calling out player after player for poor and embarrassing errors.
I could run around Flozel Adams and sack the QB. I doubt he'd get a finger on me.
I could run by Ken Hamilin simply by jumping over his lame attempts at tackling by throwing himself at the runners feet.
I could intercept Tony Romo when he throws a hail mary pass 2 minutes into the first quarter.
I could get Packman Jones thrown in jail, simply by inviting him out to da club to score some hoes, and letting (his) nature take it's course.
Hell, I could miss a block just as well as Martelus Bennet and watch the quarter back get creamed in the end zone and break his finger.
I could stack on the left side of a field goal defense, just to watch the holder (a punter no less) take off running to the other side to make a critical fist down. That's a hell of a special teams coaching plan.
Ultimately, what wins in football is sound fundamentals.. few penalties.. few turnovers.. picking up the proper assignments in offensive blocking and defensive pass coverage... It's not an 80 yard touchdown pass to some jackass. It's getting 12 yards when you needed 10. It's playing tight on opposing receivers and staying in the same general area as the receiver during the play.
Unfortunately, Jerry Jones has to have his drama... win or lose. It is, after all, the Dallas Cowboys.
