I'm Sold

I've never been a big fan of identity politics.. but really.. who would you rather have a beer with? And don't dare say Dick Cheney unless you want to get shot in the face..

McCain? Well, he wants to veto your beer..

Much more hilariously, a misreading of the teleprompter led McCain to sound a little bit more like a teetotaler fraternity president than a presidential candidate. Speaking about his use of the veto pen to eliminate wasteful spending, he declared, "I will veto every single beer, um, bill with earmarks."
I keep meaning to start a blog to chronicle my adventures in beers, but being lazy, it's just not happening.

I am addicted to Belgian and English beers.. If you see Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout, give it a try. You will never be able to drink large brewery American beers ever again.

I find one of the most fascinating things about the international beer market is that what most people get imported and then associate with a country is often the country of origins most awful domestic product.

The perfect example of this is 'Fosters' which any self respecting Australian would never let pass their lips.
But by saying that I'm also a victim myself. I really enjoy Stella Artois, but in the UK they call it 'wife beater', because it's what the common folk drink before going home to start a domestic.

Perhaps you can tell me... is there any hope for American beer at all?
All we get here is Bud, Coors and Miller. All weak and repulsive, yet exorbitantly priced just coz they're foreign.

Does it get any better than that without resorting to boutique beers?

Oh jeez.. I like Stella a lot also. I got turned onto it on a trip to London quite a while back, and they sell it at the store I get my beer at.

I used to drink Fosters every so often.. the "oil cans". It's not too bad IMO.. but there's something about the hops and malts in the Euro beers that just seem a lot better to me... especially the stouts and porters.. and the ales. I think Stella is the only Euro lager I've had, as I've not really been into lager lately.

Coors, Bud, and Miller.. are awful. I can get a 6 pack of Bud bottles for something like 4 bucks.. but the Smith's costs 10 bucks for 4, and it's totally worth it.

There's some American micros that aren't bad. There's one made in Texas called Shiner Bock that is quite good. I'll have that at a restaurant sometimes. There's also a beer called Fat Tire that I like.. it's one of sweeter beers I've had.

The bigger breweries are constantly marketing new beers, and it's impossible to even try them. I'd imagine some might be pretty good, but I'm just sticking to the English and Belgian right now.

I would have thought that Budweiser would have opened breweries in Australia so they wouldn't be imports.
