[It just proves to me that I am a true Conservative and nothing anyone says or calls me, will change that.]It's hard to fathom how you can say that. How is it possible to misconstrue the meaning of;
I stand by my Conservative values and beliefs. That is true, but nowhere did I say that I was unwilling to listen to different viewpoints.
ex: I believe being gay is wrong. (I might as well stay on the topic of late) That does not mean that I don't read your views and think about what you are saying. That doesn't mean that I don't think you deserve equal rights. I can still be a Conservative and have an open mind. You are combining the two.
In fact, in previous posts, I've actually stated that I have learned things from your views and our debates.
nothing anyone says or calls me, will change that.
I remember vividly when you wrote that. I had pushed the intensity by many degrees, and your head exploded in disbelief at how I could be that.. oh what's the word.. "angry" or something like that. You retreated into the metaphor of sticking your fingers into your ears, comforted by the idea that you were right all along. Liberals are a bunch of nasty immoral hate mongers. It brings that sweet sense of vindication for you, and cudos from Doug for "holding firm".
I "combine the two" because that IS my topic.. my point. I'm arguing that "conservative" is inherently an "I believe this and nothing you will say can change my mind" ideology for people whose personality types fit that mold. You have no choice but to think that way. It's not that you can't change your mind on certain issues. You may think blue is the best color, but I could convince you that green is far better, and you might agree.
But then.. that doesn't contradict biblical scripture. At least I don't think so.
You still haven't made a rational argument about same-sex marriage beyond "that's what the Bible says", which is simply an inane point of view in the larger context of modern society vs. biblical text. Neither has any of your readers, or Doug, or Robert. There hasn't been a point raised that I haven't shown false in the entire debate. Not one single point.
And that's the point.. because there is not a single bit of difference between a same-sex couple who marry and a hetro couple, other than what some really old book, that is full of shear lunacy and contradictory crap, says. (still waiting for you to murder somebody for eating a shrimp by the way)
Ultimately, what I write about is never about singular issues. It's all about the cult of authoritarian worship, how it's defined, and who it's members are. I want to expose the hypocrisy, and inflexibility of those who must look outside themselves for moral guidance, because their inside is completely lacking.
It is my sincere belief that those who do not have an innate sense of morals are critically flawed people - subject to the abuse of those they follow, and responsible for the tragedies that result. It's been this way for thousands of years.

To YOU it is not rational, to other's it is perfectly rational. Just because you believe differently and put no credibility in the Bible does not make you right. In my eyes, you are the irrational one. But then again, that just shows our different opinions on religion. You also have a very different opinion on what a Conservative is. And considering that "Conservatives" even have differing opinions, you can't group us together, although you do that on a constant basis.
For the record.
Rational
adj.
1. Having or exercising the ability to reason.
2. Of sound mind; sane.
3. Consistent with or based on reason; logical: rational behavior.
I could explain why belief in the bible is irrational, but I would just go on and on and anyone so blinded by their belief's wouldn't listen anyway, so I'll just leave it at a definition and let you mull it over.
Steve.
