New York City is a fantastic place.. all different sorts of people.. different cultures.. different businesses.. and home to some of the greatest arts in the world.

The state of New York is also making a dramatic change for the better;

Gov. David A. Paterson has directed all state agencies to begin to revise their policies and regulations to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions, like Massachusetts, California and Canada.

In a directive issued on May 14, the governor’s legal counsel, David Nocenti, instructed the agencies that gay couples married elsewhere “should be afforded the same recognition as any other legally performed union.”

The revisions are most likely to involve as many as 1,300 statutes and regulations in New York governing everything from joint filing of income tax returns to transferring fishing licenses between spouses.

While New York does not have full equal marriage laws, all people have to do is plan a little trip to Niagara Falls, get married in Canada.. and bam.. they're married in New York.

It's also important to note that the 1,300 statutes and regulations are for the benefit of married couples. It's an incentive to participate in that institution.

It also means that gay people have been denied those benefits.. and that's flat out wrong. It's also why I despise religious freaks so vociferously. They continue to desire that citizens of New York be denied the same privileges under the law.

If only we could convince San Francisco to secede.

SF is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.. filled with warm and friendly people.. and cultural icon of the arts... and Doug wants it out of California.. presumably because it's "liberal" and has a high percentage of gay people living there.

San Francisco is what is best about America.. and Doug hates it.

One thing, off the top of my head Doug.. You have no idea what Obama's health care plan is.. and you mischaracterize it completely. It's not even a government administered financial system.
