Fucking Right

I wonder about the definition of "patriotism". The right wing authoritarian cult freaks seem to think that it's traitorous to speak out against the government, or demonstrate in the streets, when you disagree with the government's view. At least, it's "traitorous" to speak out against a right wing regime, waging war.

I remember reading many right wing blogs, exactly like Doug's, suggesting that when people demonstrate during a "time of war", they should be put in jail, or worse.. defined as "anti-American" or worse.

I remember Jennifer saying that we should just shut the fuck up because it would hurt "troop morale" to criticize. That's so insanely pathetic that words fail me.

Greenwald has been must-read this week, and really all he's doing is documenting what other people in the media are now saying. You can't expect much from them as they were the instrument that facilitated the lies.

How does this happen?

It had been some 30 years since the debacle in Vietnam. Most recent in our memories was the glorious Gulf War I, where we basically used uncontested air power to bomb the fuck out of the Iraqi's, and called it a "win". Americans are constantly bombarded with hyper-patriotic war movies and tv shows reinforcing the infallibility of American virtue and military power.

And then there was 9/11.

America has been geographically blessed in that we're thousands of miles from the centers of world conflict. We'd not been attacked in that way since Pearl Harbor, which was an entirely different event.

9/11 had become as much entertainment as tragedy, and for most people not in New York, it had a Hollywood quality to it.. as if it was a fictional event.. a Hollywood movie.. the script would dutifully call for a righteous smack down.

The problem in this case, of course, was that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, nor were any other justifications true. The bigger problem was that the war in Afghanistan wasn't dramatic enough for Americans. We wanted bigger, badder, on the teevee in the evening, ass kicking of epic proportions. Bombing a cave wasn't satisfying the blood-lust.

Unfortunately for Americans, it's costing us billions of dollars, and thousands of soldier's lives, and hundreds of thousands of lives in Iraq. And now we find that Americans, in overwhelming numbers, are having buyers remorse.

There were people who stood up for principle when it was not convenient, and they were abused for it. There are people who took the unpopular view based on principle.

And they were fucking right.

What do you do with people who lead a great nation into a war, knowing at the out-set that they are lying, propagandizing, interfering in elections by scaring the public with "threat warnings" (remember the color coded threat of the week?), throwing away the rule of law, torturing, awarding contracts to bullshit war profiteers, and on and on and on.

Regardless of anything that's been done, there is the mountain of dead human beings.. killed by the blind right wing authoritarian cultists who only care about revenge and killing and blindly obeying their ideological masters.

George Bush should be impeached.. not thrown out of office, as it's a little late for that now.. but an impeachment trial and conviction..

And all you fuckers that enabled this.. cheered it on.. and threatened and harassed those who were right all along should just shut the fuck up.. because you clearly lack the judgement to have an opinion.

But that's not going to happen.. and again.. the media is going to respond to all this criticism by being hyper critical of government.. of Obama's administration and the Democratic Congress. They sure as hell can't be critical of the current criminals in the White House. After all, that would make them critical of themselves.

The Scott McClellan episode substantiates everything we've been saying since the begining. The right wing is saying that McClellan is "disgruntled"... and once again not even addressing the substance of what McClellan is saying.

I was just about to write "so just shut the fuck up already", but you know.. they won't shut the fuck up no matter how wrong they've been, how wrong they are, and how much damage they've done.

Tonight, McClellan is going to be on with Keith Olbermann. You can imagine that some people are going to be quite upset.
