I've seen every single liberal blog that references this issue do the exact same thing over and over and over. Normally they don't just continually post negative reactions to a political statement. Usually they offer a sensible solution.
I have not read a single liberal who has acknowledged the unfairness of "helping" the "struggling" homeowners while the rest of us pay our mortgage every month. They never say one word about why that's fair.. nor why the "struggling" homeowners are actually not able to pay their mortgages.
Every single liberal blog that I read frames this issue in exactly the same way.. and I find that highly bizarre and dishonest. It's looking like it's just a political point scoring game, rather than effective policy.
If some "plan" ever gets passed.. I'm going to suggest that every homeowner stop paying their mortgage and then apply for the help from the government.
When Doug screeches about socialism, he's always off base.. but on this issue, it truly is socialist.. and they're dragging the Republicans in to favor it as well.. and the ONLY reason is because of politics. It'll be harder to get elected if you were the guy that voted against helping people keep their homes.
The Congress should develop a plan to give a million dollars to every citizen. Would you be the politician that votes against it? If you said yes, that's why you're not a politician.
This issue is second only to the Iraq war in policy insanity that I've seen the last 8 years.
Here's a comment from the Kos post thread;
homeowners, come on, give him a break! He just cares about the homeowners who can afford their mortgages though and give to his campaign, you know the rest of use can go Cheney ourselves!Again, owning a home is not a human right. If you can't afford the mortgage, you can't live in the house. You signed the contract, and you expect to just be allowed to live there without paying your mortgage?
I don't normally read Kos comments.. it's a huge mess of off topic bullshit.. and non sequitors.. and some of the stupidest shit you can imagine.
I don't give a flying fuck about hit counts (hear that LBM you stupid fuck?) - and I'd shut down the whole enchilada before I'd let that shit happen here.
Kos is a good blog.. most of the writers there I really don't give a fuck about. Kos is always worth reading, and he's why the blog became popular. Take him out of the equation, and nobody would give a fuck about that blog.
It's the same with Atrios. If he started having a bunch of "guest bloggers" and decided to just blog every once in a while, the blog would turn into a pile of shit.
This is why Sullivan's blog is a pile of shit when he takes his "sabbaticals". All the other writers are boring as fuck, have no style.. and are unreadable.
This is why Americablog sucks huge monkey balls now. They keep hiring more and more people to post there.. I guess John Aravosis is off doing what he considers to be more important stuff than blogging.. and that's his choice.. but that blog became popular, and was readable, because of his writing. Nobody gives a fuck about Jackie what's-her-name or Chris from Paris.. or A.J. something or other.
And that's what happens to big blogs... except for Eschaton. The writer gets a bit of fame.. offers of being more "important" and then turns over the blog to shitty writers, who, if they were decent, would be just doing their own thing at the own hugely popular blogs.
I know my blog has low hit counts.. and yes.. I know I don't give a fuck.. and yes.. even with shitty writers, those other liberal blogs get a lot of hits. It's only because of the readership that was built up under the primary writer.
Finally.. there's always a few voices of reason in the din.. and somehow they are ignored;
If you signed a crappy variable-rate mortgage, then you made your own bed in my opinion. No one told you not to read the fine print.But he qualified it.. If you signed a crappy variable-rate mortgage. There are countless ways that a person could find themselves unable to pay their mortgage. Again, owning a home is not a right.. and a person borrowed the money. It doesn't matter one fucking iota why they can't pay their mortgage. They lose the house.
If I'd knew the government would come along and bail my ass out if I got in over my head, I'd be in a home now instead of renting. But I knew if things shifted ever-so-slightly, what looked like a good deal at the time would hang me. So here I sit in my rented apartment.
No one held a gun to these folks' head and made them buy a house. I don't want my tax dollars used to fix their problems.

If you don't care about people who lose their homes thanks to mortgage foreclosures, then I don't know what the hell you are doing on a Democratic blog. This is not a place to go spouting Republican talking points.
