At the risk of repeating myself.. I think this point is critical.
There are a lot of Americans that supported the war in Iraq, who now have decided that it wasn't "worth it". I'm not going to dig up the polling unless somebody makes an issue of it... but that is the case.
I don't think most of those people understand the gravity of the situation. Americans, in droves, supported the war.. a war of aggression... because to most Americans, it's Saving Private Ryan.. America can do no wrong.. We're the "good guys" and they are the "bad guys".
That is exactly the sort of thinking that enabled the rise of the Nazis. Blind authoritarian cultism. It's all wrapped up in "good intentions". This is why Hillary Clinton's "If I knew then what I know now" excuse is a huge pile of shit.
People refuse to really grasp what happened. Over 4,000 of America's best are dead. Over 30,000 are wounded.. some horribly so. Over a million Iraqis, who had nothing to do with "terrorism" or "WMDs", or Saddam Hussein are dead.
I think about them frequently.. obviously..
It's probably asking too much for those Americans to grasp the gravity of what has been done in their name and with their support.. but I would strongly suggest that those Americans never again offer an opinion on the foreign affairs of the United States.
When answering the most serious question of your lifetime, you got it wrong. You don't get a second chance on that one.
And I damn sure I know this won't happen.. but I'd suggest those that were wrong listen to those that got it right from the start.
Ya.. I know.. not gonna happen.

I never post graphic pictures of war on my blog to make a point. I wanted a picture for this post.. and thought maybe one of those night vision pictures of bombs falling and explosions would make a point. I pulled up Google and put in "Iraq" and hit the image search button. That picture is the first one Google displayed.
I won't continually display the carnage.. but our news media won't do it. I think it's important that people understand what has been done.
If I had been writing during the late 60's, I'd imagine I'd be saying the exact same things.
/update
I removed the picture.. I just can't stand it.. but needless to say, it's a reality of war.. for civilians.. for young people..
