There is nothing more psychologically invigorating than the belief that you are staring down the Greatest and Most Evil Enemy Ever in History, courageously waging glorious war for all that is Good and Just in the world. Nothing produces more pulsating feelings of excitement and nobility like convincing yourself that you are a Warrior defending Western Civilization from the greatest threat it has ever faced, following in -- even surpassing -- the mighty footsteps of the Greatest Generation and the Warrior-Crusaders who came before them.To be sure, it's a guy thing. The right wing chicks that dig the war are simply faux placing themselves as the backbone of their "warriors".
The media campaign for World War II was so effective, the movies so brilliant, that people want to keep fighting it.. or at least pretend they are fighting it.
Me.. I get my rush from video games, sometimes ultra violent, where you take your manly appendage of a rocket launcher, or Giant Axe Of Pwningsomenoob, and beat other players down online. It's fun.
It's also fake.. and mentally balanced people realize it's fake, and you push a button and run back to join the battle again.. because you never truly die.
Greenwald quotes Adam Smith, who wrote in 1776;
In great empires the people who live in the capital, and in the provinces remote from the scene of action, feel, many of them, scarce any inconveniency from the war; but enjoy, at their ease, the amusement of reading in the newspapers the exploits of their own fleets and armies . . . .The right wing conservative freaks do more than "enjoy" the idea of manly warriors, defeating the enemies that wish to kill us all!!1 They actually spooge all over themselves.. because they are mentally disturbed people.
They are commonly dissatisfied with the return of peace, which puts an end to their amusement, and to a thousand visionary hopes of conquest and national glory from a longer continuance of the war.
Really.. fucking.. crazy.
But as I've said.. round them all up.. drop them all in Iraq. Put it on pay-per-view.
Read the Greenwald essay. It really is all you need to know about Douglas V. Gibbs and his Loon Brigade.
The paranoid spokesman sees the fate of conspiracy in apocalyptic terms -- he traffics in the birth and death of whole worlds, whole political orders, whole systems of human values. He is always manning the barricades of civilization. He constantly lives at a turning point.oh.. and hi Doug.. you crazy fuck...
/update
And while we're at it (Greenwald reading that is), a bit earlier post about the right wing freak tendency to throw the word "traitor" around.
As a reminder.. Doug likes to take me to task for calling him "names" and using "foul" language.. Greenwald documents the right wing insanity of labeling entire cities as "traitors" and threatening them with violence.
The thing is.. being "anti-war" does not, by definition, make one a "traitor". The people in Berkley actually believe they they are doing their patriotic duty by opposing a war that they think is harmful to our nation. Still, the loons will label any opposition to a war.. any war.. as traitorous behavior that needs to be severely punished.
It goes hand in hand with their belief that they are the great keyboard warriors in the "most important war evar!!". It's a highly disturbing personality trait, but certainly has to be fairly common. It's what causes wars in the first place, and humankind is nothing if not violent and prone to war.
The single greatest disaster that could ever befall Doug and his Loon Brigade is the end of violence. They feed on it.. need it.. and without an enemy (be it Islamofacists or homos), they are empty and without purpose. What sad excuses for human beings these people are. How vile their souls.. and how hateful their motives.
This is why politics matters.. and why it is vital to win the elections and further marganlize their psychosis. No doubt, there may be another "attack" at some point.. and the bed wetters will say SEE!!!!111.. but the bold are the ones that live life and their values without giving in to the fear.
Doug is drenched in fear.. and you hear it in every word he utters. What a sad way to live Doug.. really..
