A couple of highlights from Doug's interpretation of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to Columbia and the U.N.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad paid a visit to Columbia University in New York yesterday to speak. I used Yahoo and Google in a mad search to find articles about the speech, but couldn't find any in the top ten. Perhaps it was the search words I used. Perhaps it's a Vast Leftwing Conspiracy.

Uh.. I see now why Doug never sources anything. He doesn't know how to use Google. Simply put the first 8 words of that quote into Google, and you get page after page after page of news coverage of the event. It was all they talked about on the teevee.

It boggles the mind that he went on a "mad search" on Google and "couldn't find any in the top 10", and I spent about 10 seconds copy/pasting his own text into google and got countless article matches.

Then, Doug goes on to demonstrate why, again, he's a vile asshole, by comparing Ahmadinejad to liberals.

After watching Ahmadinejad address the United Nations, and his continual attack against the United States (while not actually naming America, it was obvious who he meant), I noticed that his rhetoric sounded exactly like the talking points of just about any liberal member of the Democratic Party (Reid, Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer to name a few).

Fuck you Doug.. Seriously.. you fucking asshole.. just fuck you.

Quick.. who comes to mind here?

Biblical text paints Satan out to be a counterfeiter that cannot be trusted. One who is evil, but disguises his evil with good intentions, and sweet and colorful packaging. He is the Prince of Lies, and the harbinger of war. He calls for peace and safety as he prepares for war. He promises closeness to God as he separates you from Him. He calls you to come together with all faiths and peoples so that you may be destroyed in one fell swoop. Ahmadinejad sounded a lot like the Biblical description of Satan.

The irony is delicious..

And what would a Doug post be without an unsourced lie?

He also called for us all to believe in one God, monotheism, but don't believe that he means the same God that Jews and Christians believe in - Muslims believe in the moon god and then named it allah. Explains all the moons on Islamic Flags, don't it? So while you (the Liberal Atheists) proclaim that the Christian Right is trying to create a theocracy (which is, of course, false), how about you take your fangs out of Christians and turn your attention to the ideology that truly wishes to create a theocracy, and is willing to remove your head to accomplish it.

So.. Doug, as we know, doesn't source his factual assertion and is, indeed, lying again.

Though the crescent was originally a secular symbol of authority for Muslim rulers, it is now often used to symbolize the Islamic faith. However, it should be noted that the crescent was not a symbol used for Islam by Muhammad or any other early Muslim rulers, as the Islamic religion is, in fact, against appointing "Holy Symbols" (so that during the early centuries of Islam, Muslim authorities simply didn't want any geometric symbols to be used to symbolize Islam, in the way that the cross symbolizes Christianity, the menorah was a commonly-occurring symbol of Judaism, etc.). This is why early Islamic coins were covered with Arabic writing, but contained no visual symbols.

Obviuosly Doug think's we're "at war" with islam, and wishes to see the religion destroyed.. (notice the lower case in allah that Doug uses, it's the same reason why I frequently use the lower case for christian).. However, 5 minutes of looking around (because I'm not a scholar of world religions), and we see that muslims actually believe in the Abrahmaic version of God, exactly the same as jews, and christians. They just believe that the christian church distorted the nature of Jesus? Uh.. wow.. what a totally crazy idea!

They do not regard Muhammad as the founder of a new religion, but as the restorer of the original monotheistic faith of Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and other prophets. Islamic tradition holds that Judaism and Christianity distorted the messages of these prophets over time either in interpretation, in text, or both.[5]

Muslims simply believe that Jesus was a prophet, and revere Jesus in that sense, but also believe that Muhammad was a prophet after Jesus, and use the same logic christians use when interpreting biblical text.

It goes like this.. There was the religion of Abraham, and Moses in the Old Testament, and that's all perfect and are the rules we are supposed to follow.. unless it gets superceeded by the New (and improved!) Testament. Muslims take that a step further and insist the Quran superceedes everything else that came before it, but the old stuff still applies if not specifically superceeded by the Quran.

Still, christians like Doug beg to differ, but instead of pulling some "Moon God" out of their collective asses.. they simply..

Islam reveres the One and Only God, known as Allah (الله) in Arabic. The Islamic belief is that God is the "only creator and master of the universe". The main fundamental creed (shahadah) of Islam is "There is no god but (one) God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God". Muslims believe that Allah is the same deity as God of Christians and Jews. However, many Christians and Jews reject this muslims belief, believing that Allah, the god of the Qur'an, is not the same god as Yahweh, the God of the Bible. Many Christians point to the belief that Jesus is one of the Trinity or is divine, and hence contradicts Muslim concept of God.

In short, because muslims do not believe that Jesus was divine, that irritates the christians who think that the "God" muslims worship is not the same "God" that they do.. despite the fact that the muslims insist that "God" is "God".

But I think they're all missing the point. They're all fucking insane.. collectively.. in equal amounts.. and are all equally as dangerous. So, while Doug is at "war" with islam, the rest of us need to work on reducing the influence and participation of all organized religions.. moonies, scientologists, christians, muslims, whatever the fuck label it is.

As for the theocracy, the christians are simply using a different route to the same end. They want an all christian government, and application of laws based on biblical text. They must be really jealous of the mullahs that have pulled that off in Iran.
