I had a follow-up visit with my doctor today, and the good news is that the tests I had done were negative. The chest x-ray looked normal, and the pulmonary function test was only slightly under normal. The bad news is that I'm still having intermittent breathing problems. The Singulair and Asmanex helped a bit, but really not a whole lot. My doc changed the Asmanex to Advair, and gave me a referral to a pulmonary specialist, because he appears to be stumped with what the problem is.
I did have a conversation with him about what I read on Wikipedia about Singular and it's relation to Churg-Strauss syndrome. He actually took me to his office to look it up, and the conversation went like this;
Doc: Hmmm.. that's a really rare condition.
Me: Somebody has to get it.
Doc: That's true.. we'll test you for it.
So, I had blood drawn for a few tests and should know in a week or two what the results are.
I'm wagering the tests will be negative again, because ultimately, I think the problem is an allergy, but the doctor doesn't think so. He says he loaded me up on drugs designed to relieve that and they didn't work, so that's why he wants me to go to a pulmonary specialist first before an allergist.
As an aside, while I was waiting in the room, I looked at the all the diplomas on the wall, and it included his high school class valedictorian certificate, and all sorts of honors and such from the medical training. Apparently he's really bright, so it's kind of odd to me that he's doing family practice instead of specializing in something.
Oh.. and he's gay..
