In an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America," Michael Craig said his father was simply "a victim of circumstance" and "in the wrong place at the wrong time."Deny, deny, deny.
"We've known him our whole life. He has been so trustworthy to us, so honest to us, that we believe him," Michael Craig said.
Larry Craig adopted Michael and his two siblings after marrying their mother, the former Suzanne Scott, in 1983. Craig has worked in the Senate to promote adoption.
Among the questions he and his sister Shae Howell said they asked their father was "what exactly happened in that bathroom," and they tried to "break down definitions of what words mean," including semantic definitions of sex, Michael Craig said.
"Maybe it wasn't sexual intercourse, but were these sexual actions? Were there sexual feelings? All these terrible things that were said in the media, we asked all those tough questions," Michael Craig said. "I don't want to have an answer based on a legality or technicality or semantics of the words. We wanted to know exactly what happened and after speaking to our dad, we know exactly what happened."
He said that it would make no difference to them if Craig was gay, though they "absolutely" believed Craig's assertion that he wasn't. "It would matter to my mom, but gay or straight, that part doesn't matter," Michael Craig said. "It was a matter of an accusation of a lewd, immoral, illegal act."
It must be horrible for him to have to look at his kids and right out lie to them. You don't just get arrested out of the blue, and Craig has been a well known closet case for years. Blogactive outed him in 2004. I'm sure this whole debacle has put the fear of Gorak into Lindsey Graham, the 53 year old never-married senator from South Carolina.
Doug left this pearl of wisdom in comments the other day;
Douglas V. Gibbs said...I feel like I often repeat myself, but then some loon like Doug says something really stupid and I have to make the argument again.. and again.. and again.
fact is, there are individuals that make bad decisions. Individuals claiming they have repented and are of Christ and then making poor decisions does not make Christianity a lie you moron. Besides, as I stated in my response to your crap on my site, you accusing Christians of being immoral is like a murderer accusing a boxer of being violent. Please.
I realize that good people make bad decisions. I've done it, people I know have done it.. and being a raging liberal like I am, I'm all about forgiveness and not thinking ill of that person's character.
The issue is the hypocrisy, and that tends to substantially lower my willingness to forgive. Personally, I don't care what Larry Craig does.. with whom he does it, or where he does it. I really don't give a shit. Because he's a United States Senator, his policy decisions affect me, so when he is exposed as a raging hypocrite, then that's everyones business.
The fact is - he pushed anti-gay policies his entire life whilst being gay (or at least bi-sexual) himself. Because his anti-gay policies actively harm gay people, I take a certain amount of pleasure not only calling him a hypocrite and a liar, but also seeing his career ruined. He will no longer be able to affect anti-gay policy in government.
He didn't just make a one time mistake. This was the lie of a lifetime.
Now, had he been a supporter of gay rights (regardless of party affiliation), I would have said "damn dude.. just keep it in our pants in public", and that would have been that. In that situation, he would have just been a person making a bad decision that he'll learn from, instead of a hypocrite.
Further, I did not call Christians "immoral". This is what I actually said;
The truth of the matter is that religion is a sham, and they are simply stealing from gullible people. Every last one of these fuckers are doing it.. and it's so hysterical to see them forced to get a real god damn job like the rest of us.As I've said more times than I can count, I don't give a flying fuck if somebody wants to pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or Jesus, or Buddha, or your fucking television.. I really don't care, and I'm not passing a moral judgement on the degree of insanity it takes to do that. I find organized religion immoral. That is, the institution itself.
I also find the acts of certain religious people to be immoral, irrespective, again, of the flavor of religion they happen to practice.
Here's a recent example. The fundi's are attempting to get certain books banned in public schools. Here's some of the books;
To Kill A Mockingbird -- Harper LeeI don't give a fuck if some bat-shit crazy Christian freak thinks Harry Potter is going to turn their child into a witch. I really don't fucking care. I DO care that they seek to impose that insanity on other people's kids.
Lolita -- Vladimir Nabokov
1984 -- George Orwell
Cather in the Rye -- J.D. Salinger
Grapes of Wrath -- John Steinbeck
Catch-22 -- Joseph Heller
Go Tell it on the Mountain -- James Baldwin
Harry Potter series -- J.K. Rowling
You see what I'm getting at here? Be crazy as fuck. I don't care. Just don't fucking bring your shit near me. K?
And ya.. as Dan pointed out in comments.. I'm curious to know how Doug thinks I'm immoral. I'm not perfect by a long shot.. but I'd just like to see Doug man-up and spell it out.
/update
Jesus Christ.. Doug wrote a whole new post on this I need to rebut. It's insane.
Ahhh, but that's not the point, is it? First of all, my wondering mind is wondering if that wonderfully pro-gay media would have reacted in the same way had the alleged act of homosexuality been by a Democrat.That depends on the gay-rights position of said Democrat. Duh.
This is where the real truth lies. Craig allegedly sought out gay sex in a bathroom (had he been a Democrat he would have been championed for his bravery in this gay-hating world of Family Values spewing, war-mongering Republicans), and even though nothing has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, the Republican party essentially ran Craig out of town.3 names for you Doug. David Vitter. Bob Ney. Randy Cunningham.
Now, had the Republicans coddled Craig, and defended his alleged actions (notice the word alleged), then they (The Republicans) would have been hypocrites. Fact is, the Republican Party will not put up with anyone playing two sides of the political game, and will pressure resignation even if the person is totally innocent (as in Tom DeLay's case).
By your own definition, "(The Republicans) are hypocrites". The ONLY time the Republicans did not "put up with anyone playing two sides of the political game" is when it involved gay sex.
In fact, Doug said this in comments of one of his own posts;
Before I name a few more Dem scandals, understand that I really don't know why Vitter hasn't been asked to step down. Perhaps it's a good thing he's standing up to the B.S. Think about it. The Left is so quick to try to crucify Craig, Vitter (and DeLay after proving nothing) and they don't even need a shred of proof to ruin a career.And right there, in plain language, Doug is calling the Republicans hypocrites - by his own definition.
Wow.. just unreal. For the record, the "shred of proof" in Vitter's case is.. you know.. his confessing that he has a thing for prostitutes. The diaper fetish doesn't seem to have much "proof" beyond the claims of one of the prostitutes.
Then he goes on to recite a litany of bad behavior by Democrats, while simultaneously claiming the innocence of Tom DeLay. I can't wait for the resolution of that case, as federal prosecutors nail him to the wall. The internet has a long memory Doug, and I will shove that one back in your face.
The short of it is, I do understand that there has been some bad behavior from politicians of both parties, although the list of Republicans sent to jail in the last 7 years vastly out-weighs the number of Democrats. Claiming that somehow the Republican party does not "put up with anyone playing two sides of the political game" is a fucking lie. Vitter - Ney - Cunningham, etc.
