So Chimpy ignored DoJ guidelines and commuted Libby's sentence. This is fantastic news!
Lets face it; there would be no benefit to society by locking Libby up for 30 months in a federal pen, except for a certain amount of schadenfreude. The larger picture is more important, and that is the destruction of the Neo-Con, theocratic, authoritarian, conservative movement. The commutation will pay dividends for years, and if there was any doubt about the '08 elections, those doubts are gone.
I'm watching Olbermann, and he keeps asking John Dean (former Nixon staffer) if this might be the straw that breaks the back of the 26% of the American population that keeps showing up in the "favorable" column regardless of Bush's actual performance.
Olberman is missing the point. There is NOTHING - and I mean nothing - that Bush could do that would flip the 26 percenters. They have their entire self identity wrapped up in the Jebus loving, terraist asskicking, liberal mocking, conservative movement. Bush could walk into Walter Reid Hospital, and call all the soldiers cowards and slackers and it wouldn't make any difference. Hell he could slap a few around, and the 26 percenters would love it.
This, of course, makes Bush particularly dangerous. He has absolutely nothing to lose, and a crazy man with the nuclear football and a bad attitude toward Iran might suddenly decided it doesn't matter what happens in the rest of his term and the rest of his life.
Now, it'll be really fun if Congress or Fitzgerald conduct hearings with sworn depositions.. for Libby, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Powell and Bush.
It's all so delicious.
