Jesus christ, who gives a shit? This week the death toll of American soldiers in Iraq passed 3,500, and all the news media covers is Paris Hilton.
It's just fucking pathetic. Our newsmedia is really what is fucking up this nation. If all they focused on were serious news and not the latest celebrity scandle or "pretty white girl in trouble", maybe Americans wouldn't do things like vote for assholes like George Bush.
But hey.. at least Anna Nicole Smith is still dead, and she's not on my teevee anymore.

Okay.. this is a fucking circus. The judge has ordered her to serve the entire 45 days jail time - in jail. Lets get the sequence here. She's sentenced to 45 days in jail, told she'll serve 23 (or something like that), then the sheriff sends her home to do the 45 days under house arrest, and then the judge sends her back to jail for the full 45 days.
Meanwhile, defense attorneys are saying that the original 45 day sentence was way out of the norm for her crime and excessive, that being released early was not uncommon in LA county jails, and now she doesn't even have the benefit of the original 23 days and must do 45.
Then she's taken out of the courtroom screaming. Good god..
It's pretty simple. Being a celebrity has no bearing on anything. Punishing more or less is silly.

for once I agree with you. It is pathetic that the news agencies spend more time on Paris than more important issues (and Fox News was just as guilty). However, rather than only focusing on death as a result of war in Iraq, shouldn't the news agencies also focus on the advances in the provinces not suffering from sectarian violence, the humanitarian efforts by the Americans such as Measles shots and such, and so forth? And nice to see in your posts that you still talk shit about Doug Gibbs. You are only helping him.
The reason that not much focus is given to the "success" stories is because it doesn't even begin to counter-balance the death and destruction being wrought in Iraq. You generally don't a shit about a school being opened while there is a civil war going on.
And how am I helping Doug? He only preaches to the choir and isn't interested in any debate, nor is he interested in creating any sort of rational, substantiated, argument.
There's about 25% of America that is hard-core fundamentally bat-shit crazy, and that's the land of the loon. I'm certianly not helping him chip away at increasing that percentage. I'm not providing him any fodder for his arguments as he NEVER quotes me and argues against my point. All he does is reference me, makes up straw-man arguments and then argues against them... Hell, he's exactly like you in that you just make up what you think the liberal agenda is and argue against it. However, you're just such a fucking coward you won't argue against what I tell you is the ACTUAL liberal point of view.
Conversely, I get a lot of mileage out of Doug's insane ramblings. He really does appear to be cavorting with Neo-Nazi ideology.
