You're welcome. but your cases of marriage are based on historical data, not a biblical recommendation. I figured you'd be bright enough to tell the difference. Apparently, I was wrong.
As a refresher, these are the 8 types of marriages as described in the Old Testament.
The standard nuclear family:
Polygyny Marriage:
Levirate Marriage:
A man, a woman and her property -- a female slave:
A man, one or more wives, and some concubines:
A male soldier and a female prisoner of war:
A male rapist and his victim:
A male and female slave:
Doug claims they are not "biblical recommendation", however they were just taken as a matter of fact in the Old Testament.
In the New Testament, Jesus does not denounce any of these forms of marriage, nor does he "recommend" them. Jesus just takes them as a matter of fact. Notably, Jesus does take issue with divorce however. He's quite specific about that.
But just like Jesus said that a person should give away all their wealth in order to enter the kingdom of heaven, and modern day Christians ignore that, they also ignore Jesus admonition against divorce. As I've shown, Christians in conservative states lead the nation in divorce rates.
I'm curious about any biblical references in the New Testament where Jesus advocates, or "recommends" as Doug put it, the style of marriage practiced by the majority of Christians today.
I'm curious why the right wing loons want to pass a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, which Jesus never talked about, instead of passing a constitutional amendment banning divorce. Of course, "conservatives" like Rudi and Newt would be pretty pissed if that included a law that required that divorced men go back to their first wives.
Have you ever been divorced Doug?
