Video of the Day

Steve says he's done a Rubicks Cube in a minute and a half. I once did it in about a minute. This guy does it in 2 minutes.. with his feet.

Once again, this is a puzzle post. Watch it here, do not click the link to youtube.

How did he do it? It shouldn't be possible. The answer is given to you in the video.

Click here to see a video of the world's fastest Rubick's Cube solve... in 10.48 seconds, done by.. naturally.. an Asian. The previous world record, 12.11 seconds, done by.. an Asian, here.

Now for the answer to the question from the other day, that nobody even guessed at;

So Steve mentioned the Gettysburg Address this afternoon.. and after doing the wiki thing, going to Lincoln, then the Civil War, and through links after links, finally to a Union Army general named Ambrose Burnside, comes a revelation of a colloquialism attributed to said general that is now a common noun. I'd imagine the vast majority of Americans have no idea the origin.

Quick.. without hitting the wiki, can anyone tell me what it is? Most every man has them to one degree or another.

Burnside was noted for his unusual facial hair, joining strips of hair in front of his ears to his mustache, but with chin clean-shaven; the word burnsides was coined to describe this style. The syllables were later reversed to give sideburns.

We used to sit around before debate rounds and solve rubics cubes.

NERD!

My best time was a little under a minute...54 seconds or something.

It's really not a test of skill once you learn the algorithims, just memorization and regurgitation. I suppose finger dexterity is a plus.../shrug.

Having a good cube helps a lot too.

I reckon if I had one of them fancy "speed cubes" I could solve her in under a minute with my current technique.

I only had to memorize maybe 8 combinations of twists and turns. Of course each combination has upwards of 12 spins and rotations of the cube, but all in all it was quite simple.

I started trying to learn the faster ways, but just for the First Two Layers I was staring at 48 different combinations of 4-8 twists and turns. So I said fuck it, I'm happy with just solving it. :)

But yeah, it's all about how much time you want to put into it and how much empty space there is up in your head for useless algorithms.

Steve.
