Dallas?

Wow.. just wow...

The Dallas Morning News

Old Red Courthouse, meet the new blue courthouse.

Dozens of Republican judges will be turning in their robes next year, as the Democrats picked up 41 of 42 contested seats in Tuesday night's election.

It was the tightest judicial election in years and produced many charges of dirty politicking. Political insiders closely watched this year's judge races for a Democratic shift in Dallas County.

When the votes were counted, the shift happened – locally, though not statewide. In fact, Dallas County was one of the few bright spots for the beleaguered state Democratic Party.

"At first I was taking it personally," said Republican Livia Liu, who lost her seat as criminal district judge. "Now I know it's the whole Republican Party going down. This is what it's all about. You win and lose. Dallas County is no longer a Republican Party."

"Dallas County is a blue county," said state Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas. "This is a new day in county politics."
