Mission Accomplished

Media Matters has a nice round up of the media clapping shortly after "mission accomplished". Link:

My favorite part, from Chris Matthews;

MATTHEWS: We're proud of our president. Americans love having a guy as president, a guy who has a little swagger, who's physical, who's not a complicated guy like [former President Bill] Clinton or even like [former Democratic presidential candidates Michael] Dukakis or [Walter] Mondale, all those guys, [George] McGovern. They want a guy who's president. Women like a guy who's president. Check it out. The women like this war. I think we like having a hero as our president. It's simple. We're not like the Brits. We don't want an indoor prime minister type, or the Danes or the Dutch or the Italians, or a [Russian Federation President Vladimir] Putin. Can you imagine Putin getting elected here? We want a guy as president.
The sad thing is, Matthews is right. That's the only explanation for Bush getting re-elected (if you concede that he did indeed win).

Bill Clinton was "complicated"? Women like a guy who's "president"? Women "like this war"?

He's right.. we're not like the Brits.. or the Danes.. or the Dutch.. or the Italians. Those countries want a leader who is very intelligent and articulate. Americans wanted a "straight talking" average intellect "ordinary Joe" just like them.

Guess what? That's exactly what they got.. and now Congress' approval rating is at 22% and Chimpy is only slightly higher at 32%.

You know what? I'd rather have Bill Clinton, even if he's getting blown by interns every day. I'd rather have Michael Dukakis or Walter Mondale. I'd rather have John Kerry or Al Gore.. But Americans aren't like that. Europeans have more of a class based system where they recognize it's important to have exceptionally gifted people leading their nations. In America - Tony Stewart would be a shoe-in if he ran... with "Home Depot" patches on his suit jacket.. because we've become a Home Depot kind of nation. Dumb as a fucking box of rocks, and fearful of intellectuals.

And what's responsible for the dumbing down of America? It's obvious. It's all just to obvious.

And we get what we deserve because of it... financially, and worst of all, the dead soldiers.

But then, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle..

** update **

Oh.. and this is "out of context" despite the fact that everything is sourced and accurate...

You're on a roll of taking things out of context today.

Don't you need to write something about how religion is purposefully and deliberately destroying the entire fabric of the universe?

Unless you repeatedly making that comment about The truth being in the middle somewhere wasn't an intentional reference to the debate we had over that phrase...

Sorry for posting multiple replies here - work interruptions.

Anyway, if I was not clear I apologize. I was not referring to the entire posting as out of context. Rather, I was referring to the line about the truth being in the middle which I assumed was directed at me because of an earlier discussion. I had assumed that when I "quoted" (italicized) just that part, that it would be understood that it was only that part I was referring to. My bad.
