Incompetent

These are the headlines from CNN.com today.

Bush: Results not acceptable
• Bush: "We'll get on top of this situation"

• Mayor blasts feds: "'Get off your asses"

• Large explosion reported in city's railroad district

• Houston's Astrodome full, turns away refugees
Chimpy can say that results are not acceptable all day long. This is HIS federal government. This is HIS Congress, and HIS Defense Department.

Remember the airlifts of food and water to the Iraqis after our military bombed the fuck out of them? Apparently it can't be done for American citizens.

There are 25,000 refugees coming to Dallas tomorrow morning. John suggested that we volunteer to do something, but apparently there is some 8 hour class a person has to take before they are qualified to help people who have lost everything.

You know how people like to call Bush the smirking chimp? He was smirking all through his speech yesterday. It's that weird fucking smile he gets whose body language is clearly saying "I can't believe you people don't get this".

Would somebody please tell the President it's not appropriate to smile when talking about a city getting destroyed?

** update **

Once again, Americablog has all the latest information collected into one place.

One interesting question they are asking is, where is Dick Cheney? He's been missing for weeks. John @ Americablog suspects that Cheney is very ill, and that's why chimpy has been off his game during this disaster. He's not in Washington. The "official word" is that Cheney is on vacation!

What the fuck?

There is more going on with this disaster than can be believed, and the Officer Barbrady'ing is in full force.

The head of FEMA, Michael Brown told Katie Couric this morning "people are getting the help they need."
Even if your voted Bush/Cheney twice, ask yourself this; Would you rather have Kerry and John Edwards handling this crises? I sure as hell would.

For fucks sake, the Vice President of the United States is missing in action! Bush is going to take a helicopter tour of New Orleans, but Cheney should be on the ground helping to direct resources - oh hell, at least LOOKING like he's in charge and taking command.

Sometimes you just have to post the whole article, and this is one:

NEW YORK -- The dean of New York's congressional delegation suggested in a television interview that Vice President Dick Cheney may not be healthy enough to perform his duties.

Rep. Charles Rangel was being interviewed on NY1, the New York City-based all-news channel, when he was asked Friday night whether he thought President Bush was taking too much vacation time this summer.

"Oh no, it makes the country a lot more safe," the Manhattan Democrat said. "The further Bush is away from Washington, the better it is. And sometimes I don't even think Cheney is awake enough to know what's going on. Rumsfeld is the guy in Washington to watch. He's running the country,"

"Cheney's not awake enough?" reporter Davidson Goldin asked.

"Well, he's a sick man you know," Rangel said. "He's got heart disease, but the disease is not restricted to that part of his body. He grunts a lot, so you never really know what he's thinking."

Asked whether he was suggesting that Cheney was not healthy enough to do his job, Rangel said, "Why do you think people are spending so much time praying for President Bush's health?"

"If he ever leaves and Cheney's in charge, there's not very much to pull together for the rest of our nation," he concluded. "This is a sad state of affair."

The White House declined comment Saturday.

Well, the Red Cross (although a really good organization) has reduced their required 8 hour volunteer education class to 2 hours....there are no classes available until next week, and there are 25,000 refugees in downtown Dallas, and in processing centers in 2 suburbs. The need is immediate. It's frustrating, in a situation like this, that an organization, for legal reasons, must train it's volunteers before they can have contact with the needy public.

So, we will have to get creative on how to help these people who are now guests in our city, and who have probably lost everything.

Listening to the radio this morning, a listener called in to say, drive the parking lots of local hotels....you will see lots of Louisiana license plates. I picked up the phone and called a few hotel managers, asked if there were any pressing needs for any refuges housed there. A couple of hours later, after a visit to evil WalMart, I delivered a couple of cases of diapers, formula, snacks, and underwear!

It seems that what we are seeing on TV are the poorest of the poor, the not so bright, and the physically challenged people.

Based on what I saw today, and the actual people I talked to, most people left the Gulf Coast area by car on Saturday and Sunday.

While some of these people in hotels can afford to be staying there in one room. But, when you ad the nightly rate up, and multiply by 30 days, their monthly rent is going to be around $3500 at the places I went to today. Something will have to give sooner or later....especially for the masses that live paycheck to paycheck.

So Tom, I'll still figure out something to do to help tomorrow. I just can't call in some money and be okay with that. I see these people, and ask myself....what if that was me on the screen??? So I've got to do something.

It appears that most of these people just need emotional and mental support...someone to talk to, and/or to give them hugs.
