Growing up in Phoenix, you don't get a lot of exposure to hockey. I went to some minor league games, watching the Roadrunners, and then the Winnipeg Jets moved to Phoenix to become the Coyotes. I went to a whole bunch of games before I moved to Dallas.
It looks like it's going to be an interesting year for them this time around. They've got the brand new arena, plus some quality old timers.
Not only is Wayne Gretzsky going to coach the team this year, but they brought in Sean O'Donnell, Petr Nedved, Brett Hull, Boyd Devereaux and Mike Ricci and traded for Jason Chimera. They've got Curtis "CuJo" Joseph goaltending too.
I'm rather surprised to see Ricci. He's a really nasty player, and I don't think he got along with the Coyotes all that well in the past when he played for Anaheim. Still, it's better to have the nasty player on your team then the other team.
I think the only player still with the team from when they started in Phoenix is Shane Doan, who is the team captain now. Winnipeg drafted him in '95. Has it been 10 years already? He had only 27 goals in the last season, but his production over-all is improved. This needs to be a big year for him. He needs at least 35 goals and 85 points.
Holly cow, Bret Hull is 41 years old... and they've got Rick Tocchet, Barry Smith, and Grant Fuhr coaching. I remember I used to taunt Fuhr when he was the goaltender for the L.A. Kings. Fuhrrrrrrr.. Fuhrrrrrr. you suck!
