Nice little story from the AP about Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-CA), link:
He's your typical Republican - who has announced, oh so graciously, not to run for re-election. Some tid-bits that stand out, and some slimeballing that I hadn't heard before..
The California Republican and Vietnam War flying ace wasn't a wealthy man when he arrived on Capitol Hill in 1991, but in recent years he has lived like one.How did he get wealthy? Defense contractor scams. How do defense contractors make money? War. What is the United States doing now? Having an open-ended war.
I've read about a number of scams that Cunningham was involved in, but this one is new to me.
In 2000, Cunningham wrote to prosecutors on behalf of a New York developer convicted in a bid-rigging scheme. The developer, Thomas T. Kontogiannis, later bought Cunningham's 65-foot flat-bottomed riverboat, netting the congressman a $400,000 profit.Cunningham is 63 years old. Could we please make sure he lives the rest of his life in a federal penitentiary? k.. thx
Oh.. but the story missed the really juicy parts of Cunningham's involvement with ummm... the boys.. if you know what I mean. His wife would be shocked, I'm sure..
