PHOENIX - A blistering heat wave is being blamed for the deaths of at least 13 people in Phoenix, prompting officials to ask for donations of ice and water bottles for those sweltering without air conditioning.I spent my first 35 years in Phoenix. A high temp of 111 is hot, but I don't think that's unusual for July. Is there something different about this summer than the usual Phoenix egg fry?
Eleven of the victims since Saturday were homeless, and the other two were elderly women, including one whose home cooling system wasn't on, police said Wednesday.
Phoenix has endured above-average temperatures every day since June 29, with a peak of 111 degrees on Tuesday, and a high of 108 was forecast Wednesday. Even during the coolest part of the day, the mercury descended only to 89 Wednesday morning, and some mornings haven't gone lower than 91.
I remember the day it hit 122 in the shade. Now that was hot!
It's 94 in Dallas right now, and 45% humidity compared to 17% in Phoenix. The "feels like" temperature is actually a degree warmer here than it is in Phoenix, at least according to weather.com
So what's the big deal?
Summers here aren't so bad at all. I much prefer them to Dallas winters. I hate winter. I hate cold weather.. ugh ugh ugh.. so any liberal paradise I move to is either going to need to be a warm climate, or I'm going to need a winter home someplace else.
I live just a bit north of the top center of the map. It's overcast outside, but I don't think we're going to get any of the storm.
