A few points on the direction of Kos' blog.
They changed the appearance a while back, and after giving it ample time, I don't like it. The text box is too narrow, the links are too orange, and over all it's not that attractive. In many ways, simple is better. I also don't like the "under the fold" business. Post the whole thing, and if I'm not interested, I'll just scroll down to the next post. Don't make me click and wait for each post I want to read in its entirety.
I also don't like that they are using a "diary" promotion scheme. In essence, any joe blow can post to the diary, and if it's deemed worthy, it'll get promoted to the main blog for all to see. I think that's stupid. I go there to read Markos, and if Markos is not posting, I'm not interested in reading.
Those that are posting to the diary in hopes of promotion should just create their own blogs.
I just think the idea of random writers is schizophrenic and detracts from the coherence of the blog. When you come back to my blog, you know what you're going to get. You like reading me, great. If you don't, that's fine too, but I'm not going to confuse the issue with a sudden jump in styles.
That's not to say that 2 or even 3 people couldn't write an effective blog. Readers will be able identify after a while, and if the writers are not too dissimilar, it can be very effective. But I really have no desire to read acbonin's thoughts. Is that close minded of me? Oh well.. reading blogs should be entertaining as well as informative.
It still continues to be the most popular blog on the web, and honestly, I'm not really sure why anymore.
