XP is installed and all patched up.. Thank god for super fast computers and cable modems.. I've restored all my mail and favorites and so on, and got about half my device drivers installed. I'm not sure how I'm going to get my address book back. The import tool says it's a .wab file, but I've searched all the drives for a file ending in that extension and it's not there. It'll suck if I've lost that.. I mean really really suck..
I will write a glowing tribute here to whoever can tell me how to get my address book out of a hosed XP installation..
This little episode, while inconvenient turned out to be not so bad. Everything has the latest drivers and all the crap is flushed out now. I didn't lose anything important. The sound is pretty awesome.. I use a high end sound surround sound system.. It's great when you're playing games and can locate things naturally because the sound is all around you..
I'm listening to an oboe concerto in D.. and it's like I'm sitting smack dab in the middle with muscians all around me.. very cool..
Having Windows 98 installed was a god send. I was able to use it to move directories and such around to other drives so things didn't get wiped out on the reinstall. One quirk with it though, is that it doesn't like over 1 gig of memory. I had to take a gig out to get it to boot..
Now.. I get to reinstall all the programs and games and such.. That's going to be a pain.. but I can do them as I need them..
