The Post:
President Bush called on Congress last night to curtail future Social Security benefits for all but low-income retirees in an urgent new effort to address the popular program's shaky finances. As Atrios points out...
A "medium" earner, one earning $36,507 in 2005, would see benefits cut by 16% in 2045 and 28% in 2075.So my benefit cut under Chimp-in-Chief's plan would be 25%. I don't expect that's going to be a life altering issue for me, and it won't affect the wealthy at all. But it will screw the middle class, which Bush is really good at doing.
A "high" earner, one earning $58,411 in 2005, would see benefits cut by 25% in 2045, and 42% in 2075.
Instead of looking at revenue and better ways to manage the program, Bush simply cuts benefits.
