Most of us are all the same. We live in the same country, obey the same laws, and face the same economic conditions. Most everyone I know is middle class - some more upper, some more lower.
The thing I don't get is how you can vote against your own self interest, even doing so if you have a family to support? Don't you want to spend your money on yourself or your family? Don't you want to send your kids to college? You must not, if you pulled the level for Republicans.
There is simply no other way to spin the numbers. It all becomes so clear when you realize that the Bush family is in the OIL business. Okay? Now do you see why George holds hands with Saudi's?
From David Sirota:
President Bush is expected to trumpet his "long-term" energy "solutions" at a press conference tonight. He is talking about nuclear power, and he's talking about drilling, and he's talking about every other cockamamie idea except the one that could make a difference to middle class people - cracking down on oil companies who are literally price gouging the American people:The list of oil company profits has gone through the roof. It's not a supply/demand issue - it's pure and unmitigated price gouging from an industry who has "one of their own" in the White House.
- USA Today reports "Exxon Mobil said Thursday that first-quarter earnings soared 44% from last year, due mainly to strong crude and natural gas prices...The company's net income surged to $7.86 billion."
- Reuters reports "Royal Dutch/Shell comfortably beat analysts' forecasts to report a 28 percent rise in first-quarter profits, helped by surging oil prices and strong refining margins...The company's earnings rose to $5.548 billion."
- The Houston Chronicle reports "ConocoPhillips, the nation's third-largest oil and gas company, said today that first-quarter earnings soared year-over-year on high oil prices, though they were partially offset by unplanned downtime in the company's exploration and production unit. The company's net income jumped to $2.91 billion."
So we pay more at the pump. Oil prices also affect the price of regular goods we buy every day, as transportation costs go through the roof.
And these middle class people VOTE to get ripped off, and have money taken out of their pockets. Why on earth would you do that?
That still not enough for you? Well, the Republican energy bill actually includes MORE TAX CUTS for these very same companies. This country has gone from budget surpluses to RECORD DEFICITS - and now the Republican's are giving more tax breaks to these companies reaping RECORD PROFITS at our expense.
The House this week will consider $8 billion in tax breaks targeted to the energy industry at a time when some of those companies are enjoying soaring profits from high consumer prices. They are literally reaching into your pocket and taking your money. And still you fall on your knees and worship at the alter of the George Bush..
The vast majority of the tax breaks would benefit companies that produce and supply traditional forms of energy, with a large portion going to the oil and natural gas sector.
because you're just really stupid that way.. Eh? The Oxen wants to kill more brown people. The Oxen doesn't care about anything else..
Oh.. and no gay people.. can't have that either..
** update **
Here in Montana, energy companies have shut off twice as many citizens' energy this winter as last winter, as prices have skyrocketed.Montana is a red state, eh? They voted for Bush. They got to spend the winter without utilites. Dumb fuckers...
