Fallout

So sad..

Friends of Florida judge George Greer describe him as a low-key conservative Christian, a Republican, a family man, a dog lover. Appellate courts have found over and over again that Greer simply followed the law in deciding a sad and controversial case. But for that sin, the Pinellas County Circuit Court judge was invited out of his Southern Baptist Church.

Apparently, Greer's critics, including his pastor, didn't like his rulings in the Terri Schiavo case, which landed in his courtroom in 1998. They wanted him to be an activist judge -- a jurist who ignored the law and ruled according to the passions of a group of partisans.
How sad that the right wing is attacking the very core of our government. How sad that a "Christian" church would kick out a member for issues related to his job. That is their character. That is their insanity.

There have been times when I've been glad that Bush won the last election. He's responsible for many a mess in the world. Let the Republican's have power and watch them shoot themselves in the foot.

But - and this is quite disturbing; Bush may nominate as many as 4 Supreme Court Justices. He will not appoint a judge like Greer. He will appoint judges who will not follow the rule of law. He will appoint more Scalia's and Thomas'.

Two give you an idea, last summer the Supreme Court ruled on a case centered around what two consenting adults can do in the privacy of their own home. The majority of Justice's ruled that the government has no business being involved in that. Scalia and Thomas dissesnted. They believe the government has a fundamental right to control the behavior of adults in their own home.

Those are the types of judges that Bush will appoint. We will end up with the same sort of judiciary that they have in Iran. They are merely puppets, beholding to the religious extremists.

Now I wish that Kerry had won..

** Update **

I don't want to put this in it's own post because I'll just rant for an hour, but - The bankruptcy bill passed Congress today.

This is one of the most pro-business pieces of legislation I've ever seen. Could somebody explain to me why it's good for America? Would one of our freeper pals explain that to me?

Everyone knows this bill is going to fall especially hard on poor people, those that have lost their jobs, and people crushed under a mountain of medical bills.

Today's Republican party stands against virtually every ideal we hold dear in America, and yet they've won the elections - by using fear; fear of terrorists; fear of gays.

To be fair, some Democrats voted for the legislation also. They need to be defeated in their next election and replaced with Democrats -not- on the payroll of the banks.

It's very depressing..
