Those wacky Repubs

I'm laughing more than anything else, but this headline is great:

Bill to ban gay adoption amended, drops reference to homosexuals

Say What? LOL

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A bill to ban gay couples from adopting children was amended in a House subcommittee Tuesday so that it no longer explicitly prohibits adoptions by homosexuals.

Instead, the bill sponsored by Chris Clem, R-Lookout Mountain, now gives preference to married couples seeking to adopt. Clem said he accepted the change as a way to get the measure out of the House Domestic Relations Subcommittee.

"I've watered down the bill to simply state that an ideal marriage - a husband and a wife - should be given priority when adopting children," he said. "It doesn't prohibit other people from it."
Chris Clem - You are a major league moron, and asshat. You are just pandering to the bigots and culture issue du jour.

This did get me to thinking though. Florida is the only state that bans adoption by gay couples. I wonder what would happen if a gay couple with a child from another state moved to Florida. Would Florida come into their house and take the child?

The gay bashing is just getting absurd to the point that I'm starting to laugh about it. It's only a matter of time before (once again) the United States catches up to the more progressive nations (Canada, and Western Europe etc).

Then we have the Democratic response:

"Of course, I hate your bill," Rep. Beverly Marrero, D-Memphis, told Clem. "This is political pandering of the worst sort. I think anytime a child is placed in a loving and compassionate environment around people who care, it's to the benefit of the child."
Which of course makes sense because Beverly Marrero is not a bat-shit-crazy stupid asshat Republican talking out of his ass.

Rep. Mike Turner said there should be more focus on divorce rates than on homosexual couples who want to adopt.

"Heterosexual marriage is almost like a Dixie cup, you drink it and you throw it away," said Turner, D-Old Hickory. "It's a sad day for me and it's a sad day for the people of this state."
Ya think? Jebus f'in Christ - could somebody stop beating southern Republicans with the massive stupid stick please?
