But, I really do need to make one thing clear. I totally support every persons right to be as bat-shit-crazy as they want to be. I just cannot abide those insane people from imposing it on the rest of us.
So, today's episode of Religious Freaks Gone Wild:
The story:
(AgapePress) - The FDA is expected to announce any day whether it will permit over-the-counter sales of the "morning-after pill." The manufacturer, Barr Pharmaceuticals, has proposed that the pill be made available to anyone over the age of 16 without a prescription.Yes, you dumb shit. If a drug is legal, it's your job to dispense it. Duh!
The question I now have concerns those who own, operate and work in the retail drug establishments. What happens if a pharmacist elects not to sell the morning-after pill -- high doses of hormones that can kill the human embryo early, before it implants in the uterus. If over-the-counter sales of the drug become legal, will they be forced to provide it?
So, the crux of the issue is that this group of pharmacists want to be able to refuse to dispense a safe and legal drug based on their religious conviction. They seem to think we are forcing them to violate their religious views, thus oppressing them, because we insist they do their job and dispense legal medications.
This is not about abortion. This is about once again imposing their crazy religious views on society as a whole. This is about the danger of a large group using their version of religion (which they've made up on their own by the way) in order to force the rest of us into their influence.
It impacts us. They are not just doing their cult activities on Sunday morning anymore. They are exporting it, and trying to control the way we live our lives. We cannot permit that.
If I managed a pharmacy and a pharmacist refused to dispense a legal drug to any person, I would fire him on the spot. No questions asked. After all, what if the religious freak pharmacist refused to dispense an anti-cancer drug, claiming that God will heal your body, or it's God's will you got cancer. Where is the line drawn?
If they don't do their jobs, fire them. Period. It's not up to the pharmacist to decide a person should not have a drug. That's up to the FDA.
I could just see me saying to my boss; I'm not going to code that routine, because its use facilitates medical treatment for a person undergoing surgery, and God gave these patient's an illness by his will. Oh.. and I still want to get paid..
Ya.. right..
There is no difference between the Christian religious freaks in the United States, and the Islamic freaks in the middle east. It's exactly the same.

All religious zealotry seeks to impose its will on the masses. You know that, but I congratulate you on continuing to point out the obvious for those who would otherwise not notice it.
Great blog, Tom.
