Guns Guns Guns

Lots of bad things happening with guns over the weekend.

HOUSTON - A 2-year-old remained in critical condition Sunday after being shot by his 4-year-old brother, who may not have known the difference between a real and toy gun, police said.

The older boy got the loaded gun from a purse in his mother's bedroom and shot his brother once in the temple, Grysen said. The mother told police she had the .32-caliber automatic to protect her family because of recent neighborhood burglaries. She said Saturday was the one day that she did not secure the weapon. She could face criminal charges.
uh huh.. sure. She needs to go to jail for about 20 years and never allowed to be around kids again.

Then this story:

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A gun in a bookbag discharged in an elementary school classroom Monday and the second-grader who brought it was shot in the hand, police said.

The injury to the 7-year-old was not believed to be life-threatening. Police were uncertain why the gun went off.

"It happened in the classroom, just as they were taking their coats off," police Sgt. David Sicilian said.

Kim Bell, 46, standing outside of the school with her fourth-grade son, said teachers tried to keep the shooting quiet so not to scare the other children.

"It's a very good school, very good teachers," she said. "It's not a school a kid would bring a gun to."
Well, Kim, apparently it is.. duh.. You win the "stupid quote of the day" award.

All that said, I'm really not an advocate of strict gun control, the style of which they have in England for example. The cat is already out of the bag.

What I am opposed to is stupid people. Stupid people owning guns. Deranged homicidal lunatics having guns. Any persons who refer to their home as "the compound". Any persons who actually DO have a compound. None of those types of people should be allowed to have a gun.
